The Icarus Line emerged from Los Angeles in the late 1990s as a ferocious force in the West Coast underground, channeling the raw intensity of bands like The Stooges and MC5. Led by vocalist Joe Cardamone, the band became notorious for their confrontational live shows, uniformed look, and chaotic performances.
After early touring and singles, their debut album Mono (2001) gained wider attention following a reissue in 2003. Subsequent releases including Penance Soiree (2004), Black Lives at the Golden Coast (2007), and Wildlife (2011) cemented their reputation for abrasive, uncompromising rock.
Following years of lineup changes, relentless touring, and critically praised albums, The Icarus Line disbanded in 2015 after guitarist Alvin DeGuzman’s illness. DeGuzman passed away in 2017, marking the end of one of underground rock’s most volatile and influential acts.
