Umberto is the project of Los Angeles–based musician Matt Hill, whose music draws inspiration from 1970s and ’80s horror film soundtracks, Italo-disco, and ambient music. His debut album From the Grave… (2009) quickly earned a cult following and led to his first film score, Night Has a Thousand Screams (2012).
Primarily a solo venture, Umberto has collaborated live and in the studio with musicians such as Justin Carrick. Albums like Prophecy of the Black Widow, Confrontations, and Alienation expanded his cinematic, synth-driven sound, while later releases such as Helpless Spectator (2019) explored more atmospheric territory. Blending nostalgia with modern production, Umberto remains a key figure in contemporary horror-inspired electronic music.
